Mission Statement

In 1994, my family made a purchase that changed my life. They bought me my first computer, a Macintosh TV. I thought it was very cool that my new computer also worked as a television, and made full creative use of its video capturing abilities. But I did not realize that it was extremely rare. A Macworld magazine article about the Quadra 630 that was introduced later that year referred to the Macintosh TV as a "flash in the pan," which should have clued me in. Two years later, I read a book, "Upgrading and Repairing Your Mac," that discussed the Mac TV's limited expandability, and stated that only 10,000 of them had been manufactured. I became intrigued. I read many more books about Macintosh computers, and the history of Apple Computer, Inc. As I learned more about the company, I also gained an aesthetic appreciation for their products. I was fortunate enough to find a great book on this subject at Borders, entitled "AppleDesign: The Work of the Apple Industrial Design Group." After reading that book, I would be forever enthralled by Apple's design. I realized that these aging, yet elegant computers were being removed from service at an alarming rate, and were available at little cost from many sources. I had found a new, inexpensive hobby. My obsession with Apple hardware continues to grow. Documentation, software, and promotional items have found their way into my collection. The monetary value of these products means little to me. But their significance in the history of our society, and their ability to be functioning works of art always amazes me. I would like to collect as many of these machines as is humanly possible. |
